photographs by Colin Duff Former Brighton Belle Pullman Kitchen First Doris is now in safe keeping at Horsted Keynes. Doris has been bought by the Bluebell Railway with the aid of a generous donation with the intention of eventually being restored and converted for use on the Bluebell Railway's Golden Arrow dining train. For details of this Pullman car and the work required on her please click here. Doris had previously been owned by CIL Shopfitters Limited at Finsbury Park (being visible from the station platforms), and was formerly used as a hospitality room for that company. Despite latterly being fenced-in this car had been subjected to a massive graffiti attack on the side facing the station and distressingly remained in this condition for several years. For a photograph of Doris at Finsbury Park before the attack please click here. Doris arrived at the Bluebell Railway on April 9th 2006 and was placed into the north end of platform 1 at Horsted Keynes for cosmetic treatment, which, as can be seen from these photographs, consists of removal of paint from the windows plus over-painting of the affected umber and cream areas, where possible the Pullman lettering and lining being left. So there are currently two Southern EMU cars of 1930s vintage in platform 1 at Horsted Keynes, our 4Cor driving motor brake open being at the south end. For details of the current status of former Brighton Belle cars, please click here (the page will be updated soon). |
